Frequently Asked Questions
- Is coaching the same as therapy or counseling?
No. Coaching is not therapy or counseling and should not be confused with such professions. Some important differences to consider: Coaching does not diagnose, treat, or attempt to 'fix' an individual. Coaching is not for someone attempting to work through unresolved issues from their past. Coaching is not a substitute for professional psychotherapy, counseling, mental health, or other medically related therapies. - What is coaching?
As taken from the ICF Website "Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential." Coaching is always in service of the client and focuses on what s/he wants to achieve. Coaching is a very powerful, on-going, collaborative partnership, designed specifically to assist others in achieving their goals. Each client is acknowledged as the 'expert' in their own life and work; therefore every coaching partnership is customized to meet the precise needs of the individual client. - How will I benefit from coaching?
The benefits from coaching are as varied as they are plentiful. The specific benefits one client receives can be vastly different from those of another. However, in general terms, all clients benefit from increased self-awareness gained during a coaching relationship. As you acknowledge all aspects of who you are at your core, distinguishing what is most important to you for your life or business, you will approach your goals in a more focused manner. Coaching helps you not only discover your signature strengths, talents and guiding principles, but also helps you recognize certain behaviors, beliefs or assumptions you may have that inhibit your ability to move forward and achieve your goals. - What does a coaching session look like?
Some of that will depend upon the client - A client may be an organization seeking coaching for its workforce, or an individual looking for personal or business coaching. However, all coaching sessions will start with a discovery session, usually lasting 90 minutes. This is a chance for the client and coach to get to know one another and begin exploring what objectives or goals the client has. Subsequent sessions are usually conducted weekly and last anywhere from 30-60 minutes, depending on the client. - Is coaching done in person?
Generally speaking no, most coaching takes place over the telephone. However, this again is based on the client. Though it may seem unusual in the beginning to receive coaching via the telephone, it works well for several different reasons. Phone sessions provide more flexibility for clients who already have hectic schedules but are committed to achieving their goals. It's much easier to schedule a 30-60 minute telephone call into a day than it is to schedule an in-person appointment, which may require twice as much time when factoring in a commute. Some clients also greatly appreciate the feeling of anonymity working over the phone provides, making it easier for them to speak candidly. - What about confidentiality?
Confidentiality is an integral part of any coaching relationship, without it there is no integrity in the process, or the profession. Unless given explicit written consent by my clients to do so, I will not disclose the content or substance of our work together. It is understood that all client information is completely confidential. As a member coach, I adhere to the International Coach Federation (ICF) Standards of Conduct and Ethical Guidelines. - How much does it cost?
Individual coaching sessions generally cost $300-$500 per month, depending upon terms of the coaching agreement and length of contract. The above fees usually cover 3-4 coaching calls per month with email support between calls. (Corporate rates differ). Most new coaching contracts are for a minimum of 12 sessions. After the first 12 sessions are completed, shorter contract terms are available, including one-off sessions for coaching around a specific issue. - What if I decide coaching isn't for me?
I offer a money back guarantee.* It is important to me to provide exceptional value for all my clients. My personal goal is to conclude each coaching contract with the client feeling their expectations have not only been met, but were exceeded. I would never want a client to continue coaching with me if they found no value in the coaching partnership. (I can honestly say I've never had that happen). I want you to achieve your goals, I want you to be living your best life, and together we work to accomplish just that! However, if you decide coaching just isn't working for you, or perhaps a different coach would be better suited to you, I will gladly provide a refund.
